The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia occupies the vast majority of the Arabian Peninsula, positioned between the Red Sea to the west and the Persian Gulf to the east. As a sovereign Arab Islamic state, its land borders are shared with Jordan, Iraq, and Kuwait to the north; Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to the east; Oman to the southeast; and Yemen to the south. The country is characterized by a central arid plateau that rises into rugged mountain ranges in the southwest and slopes toward the low-lying coastal plains of the east. This geographic diversity supports a range of climates, from the extreme heat of the interior deserts to the more temperate, humid conditions found along the lengthy maritime coastlines.

The modern state was established on September 23, 1932, following a decades-long campaign by King Abdulaziz Al Saud to unify the various regions of the peninsula. This process brought together the primary territories of the Hejaz in the west, the Najd in the center, and the provinces of Al-Ahsa and Asir. The unification marked the transition from a collection of tribal emirates and regional powers into a single centralized monarchy. The governance of the kingdom remains vested in the House of Saud, with the Basic Law of 1992 serving as the primary regulatory framework. This document codifies the administrative structure of the state and establishes the Quran and the Sunnah as the constitutional basis for all legal and executive actions.

The political system is an absolute monarchy where the King serves as both the Head of State and the Prime Minister. The monarch possesses the authority to issue royal decrees, which form the basis of the nation's regulatory environment. To assist in governance, the King appoints a Council of Ministers to oversee the various administrative departments and an advisory body known as the Consultative Council, or Shura Council. The Shura Council consists of 150 members who review laws and provide recommendations on national policy. Judicial authority is exercised by a system of Sharia courts, which interpret Islamic law to resolve civil and criminal disputes, ensuring that the legal system remains aligned with the religious foundations of the state.
