Origin Story
FactTerra was born as an idea to create an interactive tool inspired by classic references like the World Factbook, encyclopedias and dedicated country facts resources.
The goal is simple: to make global data approachable and genuinely exciting. Rather than overwhelming curious minds with raw statistics, FactTerra distills essential country metrics into an interactive experience, enriched by bite-sized insights into history, culture, geography and much more.
What FactTerra Covers
Each country and territory in FactTerra includes a rich set of data and content, presented across two views — an immersive interactive globe and a classic document-style list view.
Economic Data
GDP, national debt, average net after taxes, average mortgage rates, and unemployment figures.
Demographics
Population, fertility rate, life expectancy, population growth, and net migration.
Country Profile
Capital city, spoken language(s), currency, and total land area.
Military
Total armed forces personnel and military expenditure as a percentage of GDP.
Notable Facts
Up to 30 curated facts per country — history, culture, geography, and trivia.
Interactive Globe
A rotatable 3D globe with click-to-explore countries and a fly-to search.
Cities Cost of Living
A sortable comparison of average rent, net salary, and disposable income across 200 cities worldwide.
How We Display Territories
FactTerra uses amCharts for all map and globe rendering. In some cases, the map library represents certain special administrative regions, dependent territories, and overseas territories as separate geographic entities — for example, Macau, Hong Kong, and a number of island territories.
Rather than hide these from the app, we have chosen to embrace them and provide dedicated data and facts where available. We believe this gives users a richer and more granular view of the world, particularly for regions with distinct cultures, economies, and histories that differ meaningfully from their administering states.
Important Disclaimer
Territorial Disputes
FactTerra does not take any position on current or historical territorial disputes between nations. Borders and territories as shown on the globe reflect the geodata provided by our mapping library and are presented for general informational and educational purposes only.
Active territorial disputes are complex and evolving. The way borders appear in FactTerra should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any particular political position, government, or claim of sovereignty.
Data Sources & Accuracy
The content presented in FactTerra is compiled from a range of publicly available sources. The data presented in the country statistics section is provided by the World Bank Data Bank. Due to lack of structured databases, the following metrics are collected with the use of data scraping and AI assistance: Average Monthly Net Salary, Average Mortgage Rate, National Debt, Armed Forces total personnel. Data is periodically reviewed and updated, but figures may not always reflect the most current official statistics.
The Cost of Living dataset ranks 200 cities by agglomeration population size, with average rent and average net salary compiled from a mix of open sources, including AI-assisted estimates. As with all AI-assisted figures on FactTerra, these should be treated as approximations rather than authoritative statistics.
FactTerra is intended as an educational and exploratory tool. For official, policy-grade, or academic research purposes, we recommend consulting primary sources directly, such as:
